Let's start with the basics
Who Are You?
If you were introducing yourself as a career-driven professional, how would you describe yourself?

A social media manager? A social media marketer? A community manager? A marketing manager?
Honestly, it doesn’t matter what title you choose, as long as you’re being paid your worth. But today, I’m going to break down exactly who a social media manager really is.
Let’s Keep It Simple:
A social media manager is a professional who manages social media pages. Sounds straightforward, right? But here’s where it gets interesting...
To manage a social media page effectively, you need content. That means you’re responsible for developing your content strategy and calendar. You’re not just posting randomly; you’re being intentional.
The Process Matters:
Before you can even create a solid strategy, you’ve got to do the work which involves research and audit what’s already on the page. You need to know what’s working and what’s falling flat. This isn’t optional; it’s essential.
After you post your content, you’re not done. You’re then managing the community that engages with it. Every comment, every message, every conversation, that’s your responsibility. You’re not just posting; you’re building relationships.
Then Comes the Math:
At the end of each week or month, you dive into the analytics. You check the numbers because you’ve already defined exactly what metrics matter to your strategy. You’re doing the analysis, interpreting the data, and making sense of it all.
But fam, that’s not all. You need to write reports - clear, concise reports that your clients or managers can actually understand. That requires more than just data; it requires serious writing skills.
Dearly beloved, I believe I’ve given you a solid definition of who a social media manager really is.
But I know I haven’t covered everything. There’s always more to this role - the strategy refinement, the crisis management, the trendspotting, the innovation.
So, here’s my question to you: What would you add to this? What’s a key responsibility of social media managers that I didn’t mention?
Tell me something so I can write to you again. 👀
